Why a very small school?

Maria Montessori observed that a preschool should be home away from home. Here in our Montessori Family Child Care, we share that conviction. In our opinion, preschool should be a transition from home to elementary school, not just an immersion of the child in a large group of young children. The separation from the primary care giver is hard enough as it is. Starting school in a small group of children is like widening one's own family. It is adding just enough diversity to enrich it. It should never feel threatening to the child at all.

The preschool years are precious. So treat these years preciously! At this young age, a child is pure, vulnerable, and highly impressionable. Although interaction with other children is usually beneficial, sometimes children need to be firmly advised on how to behave in group. Children can be loving, respectful and helpful with each other, but they can also be bullies or cruel sometimes. In a small group, the teacher is aware of the group's dynamics at all times. With her keen sense of observation, listening, and most importantly her accessibility, she will easily shelter your child when needed and thoroughly counsel the group. The group size allows her to monitor the interactions between children and redirect if necessary.

Research is on our side when we say all we need to know we learned in preschool. The preschool experience lays the foundation of the children's future life in school and in society. This impressionable child needs to be exposed to the best possible situations to give him or her a chance to build a strong self esteem, to be protected if needed, to lead and be led, to work alone or in group. In a small group, all this is possible all the time because every child's need can be cared for more easily.

Frequent one on one situation with the teacher is drastically increased in a small group, thus boosting academic foundation and success in a tremendous way. In today's world, isolation from members of their extended family makes it difficult for children to have frequent one on one interaction. In a small school the group and its teachers become almost similar to a large family, always available.

In such a school, there is no staff turnover since the teacher is the owner of the school. All relations with the families are totally direct. Consultations with the teacher can be done on a daily basis if necessary.

Emotional and academic growth is the main goal of our program. We want our children to prepare for a happy and healthy life.

In other words, what makes our Montessori program more special than any other is its very high quality in a homey environment.
